First Grade
First Grade at Saint Mary Catholic School is an important and exciting milestone for every child! Here, for the first time, one of the most important lessons of life is applied and begins to have meaning for these young students - responsibility. Through class assignments and appropriate homework, first grade students develop pride, confidence, and a sense of accomplishment in their ability to succeed.

Religion |
Children study the Catholic faith, focusing on the Church calendar, the Sacraments, Saints, and how God loves us and our community. The students also participate in an interdisciplinary Family Life unit. In this unit, students learn about family relationships, with an emphasis on Catholic values and virtues. Children pray the rosary as well as attend church for adoration and monthly masses. Our textbook is Faith First by Resources for Christian Living. |

The Scott Foresman Reading Street series for first grade integrates reading, phonics, grammar, and spelling. Reading skills are developed through the use of this literature based series. Homework is usually assigned two times per week.
